Entebbe International Airport (IATA: EBB) is the main airport for Uganda and is located close to the town of Entebbe and 40 KM from the capital city of Kampala. This is a tired looking airport and there is an expansion programme taking place to upgrade the airport to deal with the large growing demand. Inside the airport there is an arrival and departure terminal and a military terminal. There are a number of small shops a couple of cafes and a VIP lounge.
Taxis are plentiful outside the terminal building. There are a number of airport hotels in under 10 minutes from the airport with free shuttles operating. Many airlines use this airport and one can fly to most regional destinations as well as Europe with Lufthansa, Air France and Emirates and to Singapore with Singapore Airlines.
Uganda is home to the tallest mountain range in the World ‘the Rwenzoris’ It is the source of the Nile. This might be quite a small country but it offers so much for any visitor including the large mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the most famous National Parks in East Africa and is located inside over 330 square KM of rainforest and is the place called home to more than 340 gorillas. There are of course many other species of mammal including African golden cats, rare giant forest hog and elephants. Birdwatchers will delight in watching some of the 150 species that can be found here. As the River Nile has it’s source here, it is a popular place to practice Nile Rafting or maybe watch the sun go down on a Nile cruise. There are many walking tours offered throughout Uganda and these are a very popular choice for people because they allow you to really connect with the surrounding nature.
The capital city Kampala is an energetic and appealing as it is a great place to see some of the amazing palaces that existed prior to colonialization. Central Kampala is packed full of people, traders, hawkers, tourist and shoppers and has a very exciting feeling to it when one walks around. There are many first class restaurants in Kampala and one should head to Kololo district in search of an tasty meal.
